Léo Gillet

Léo Gillet is 29 years old and lives in Brussels. He graduated with a Master's degree in Illustration/Sculpture from the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in 2019. His artistic practice is rooted in a fragmented, colourful, and generous narrative that takes the form of illustration, sculpture, rugs, and comics. He explores and documents his environment through themes such as nature, territory, folklore, celebration, and play. Memories, encounters, fantasies, and apparent banality confront and intertwine to create images with an eclectic, dynamic, and textured quality, often set against the backdrop of the Belgian countryside with American overtones. His curiosity is nourished by everything that surrounds him, and he feels a constant need to meet people, collect, archive, and bear witness to moments of life through an imagery that continues to grow. Leading workshops also occupies an important place within his practice. These intergenerational moments of exchange make it possible to return to what lies at the heart of his artistic approach: the sharing and surprise that emerge from making art together.
